Roots of Prosperity: High Point’s Farming Heritage

Farms have been part of the landscape of the greater High Point area since the first Native Americans cultivated corn, tobacco, beans, and squash here.

Early European settlers adopted these crops and brought their own agricultural products and methods from their homelands.

Though  manufacturing  became dominant, farming  remained a major component of the local economy for much of the 20th Century.
