About the Project

The City of High Point’s Parks & Recreation Department has launched a study to develop a vision for a new Center for Active Adults (for ages 50 and better) to be located in the Oakview Park campus at 503 James Rd.

In 2019, the citizens of High Point voted to approve a bond referendum to construct a new Center for Active Adults. The future state-of-the-art facility will re-house programs offered at the Roy B. Culler, Jr. Senior Center (currently located in the former Oak Hollow Mall) and allow for new offerings and opportunities. The Roy B. Culler, Jr. Senior Center, which offers a broad spectrum of fitness/wellness, socialization, arts, and lifelong learning opportunities for adults ages 50 and better, is a North Carolina Division on Aging & Adult Services Center of Excellence.

The pre-design study will gather input from the current and future participants for the new Center for Active Adults. This information will help determine space needs, development of a conceptual vision for the building and site and inform preliminary cost projections.

The City has retained a team led by HH Architecture, along with Lifespan Design Studio, to complete the study. Lifespan Design Studio - nationally renowned Senior/Active Adult Center planning and design specialists -- and Dewberry Engineers will work closely with HH Architecture and High Point Parks & Recreation throughout all phases of the study.
