Energy Star Home Rebate Program


Purpose


The purpose of this program is to promote the use of the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR building practices in the construction of new residential homes through a rebate incentive.

Eligibility


Single-family residential homes constructed after January 1, 2009 and whose electric service is provided by the City of High Point, a NCMPA1 member, are eligible to receive the rebate upon final certification by an independent Home Energy Rater.

Amount of Rebate


$500 per single-family residential dwelling

Program Criteria


ENERGY STAR qualified homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) and includes additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20 - 30% more efficient than standard homes.

Builders can choose from a variety of energy efficiency features to meet ENERGY STAR performance guidelines:

  • Effective Insulation - properly installed and inspected insulation in floors, walls, and attics.
  • Tight Construction and Ducts - advanced techniques for sealing holes and cracks in the home's "envelop" and in heating and cooling ducts.
  • Efficient Heating and Cooling Equipment - energy-efficient heating and cooling systems can be quieter, reduce indoor humidity, and improve overall comfort.
  • High Performance Windows - energy-efficient windows employ advanced technologies, such as protective coatings and improved frame assemblies, to help reduce drafts into the house.
  • Efficient Products - qualified homes may also be equipped with ENERGY STAR qualified products such as lighting fixtures, compact fluorescent bulbs, ventilation fans, appliances and washing machines.
  • Third-Party Testing - an independent Home Energy Rater conducts onsite inspections and testing to verify the energy efficiency measures.

Submitting Rebate Application

Before the rebate can be processed by the City, a certificate of occupancy must be issued by the City's Building Inspections Department. A copy of the rater's certificate of validation must be submitted to the City. The City will submit information to NCMPA1 from the approved Energy Star certification completed by the Home Energy Rater.

This program will continue as long as funding is available through NCMPA1.
