High Point is a participating community in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP),
which makes federally backed insurance available to all buildings,
regardless of whether or not they are in a high-risk area. The NFIP was
established by congress in 1968 in order to allow property owners in
participating communities to purchase federally backed flood insurance
policies. Purchasing this insurance is designed to meet the rising costs
of repairing damages caused by floods.
