[ARCHIVED] High Point Museum Hosts Annual Open House

The High Point Museum is hosting its 44th annual Holiday Open House Sunday, December 4 from 1 pm to 4 pm. People of all ages are invited to enjoy an entertaining day at the Museum, located at 1859 East Lexington Avenue. It will highlight and showcase High Point's history, while helping the local community to get in the holiday spirit.

The Open House presents a fun-filled day featuring holiday-themed musical performances from local groups, arts and crafts, refreshments include hot apple cider and cookies, historical demonstrations such as a blacksmith, spinning and weaving, candle-dipping, and a visit from the one and only Santa Claus.

The choir from the Montlieu Academy of Technology will start off the day singing a variety of holiday favorites at 1:15 pm. The Heart & Soul Singers from the Arc of High Point will be performing at 2 pm. Santa Claus will make a special appearance from 2:30 pm to 4 pm.

"We look forward to welcoming the community into the Museum at this special event each year," Edith Brady, Museum Director, said. "It's festive and fun for the whole family."

Two new exhibits, World War II and board games, were recently installed at the Museum. The WWII exhibit, located in the lobby, marks the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It includes items from our collection that that shows the mobilization of the local community during the war. For the last few years, the High Point Museum has exhibited toys, games and dolls during the holiday season. This year, board games are on the mezzanine until February 25. Games on display will be include The Challenge High Point and a unique and handmade game related to navigating the Furniture Market by employees of Drexel Heritage Furniture Company as well as classic board games.

The Guilford Militia, a Revolutionary War Reenactment group, will be in our Historical Park. Come learn about the life of a Revolutionary War soldier.
It's the perfect time to shop for everyone on your gift list at the High Point Museum Store. We sell a variety of local merchandise including Seagrove pottery, jewelry, books, miniature furniture, games, puzzles, novelties, T-shirts and CDs. Free gift wrap and gift certificates are available. Proceeds from Museum Store purchases support the ongoing acquisition, care and preservation of our artifacts and other special Museum projects.
High Point Museum is hosting this event in partnership with students from High Point University. Four event management students have been assisting Teresa Loflin, Community Relations Director, with planning and marketing this event. The students have worked with Loflin to plan event activities, secure entertainment and attract media coverage. The students will be assisting the day of the event by helping coordinate games, food and volunteers.
