A Traffic in Souls: Book Club Examines Slave Trade

On January 27, 2017, the Heritage Book Club will begin discussing two books about the slave trade in the US from 10:30 to 12 in the 3rd floor Book Lovers' Room. We’ll focus on how economic self-interest and the profit motive overrode basic human dignity and undermined the democratic ideals of early America, with an in-depth look at Thomas Jefferson’s management of enslaved people and a more general book about the slave trade.
