Liftoff to Learning, a free, drop-in resource fair, will be held Monday, January 30 at the High Point Museum. There will be two sessions that day 11 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 7 pm.
"The work of getting children ready for Kindergarten starts long before they turn five," Edith Brady, Museum Director, said. "Parents can come here and learn about pre-K and Kindergarten options, but they also will find many other community organizations that provide services for young children. Every year we have parents who say they discovered a new activity or organization for their children at this event."
Parents of infants and toddlers may not be aware of the variety of options available to parents for quality early childhood care and formal pre-K programs in Guilford County or how to access them. Additionally, many community organizations offer less formal enrichment activities and health services to families and young children.
Starting kindergarten is a very big and exciting time in the life of a child. For parents it also can be a little overwhelming. There are actually a number of deadlines to meet and choices to make just to register for kindergarten, and the best preparation for kindergarten should include steps to prepare your child physically, mentally, and emotionally as well.
Parents will be able to speak directly to professionals about a variety of issues facing their children during this event. This event will bring together a wealth of information and resources that parents will be able to consult all in one stop.
Representatives from Guilford County Schools will be available to answer questions regarding school-choice, pre-K options, transportation, school health & nutrition, after-school options, and pre-k/kindergarten curriculums. Also on hand will be representatives from local libraries, Family & Health Services, Reading Connections, and other important community resources that support children's preparation for kindergarten.
This program is targeted for parents of all preschoolers, not just those of rising kindergartners. Beginning at a very young age, proper healthcare and nutrition along with adequate parent-child interaction have significant impacts on the future success of a child in school. Liftoff to Learning is designed to connect parents of young children to resources that will get them on the path to success in school and life.
