HIGH POINT, NC (May 26, 2017) The High Point Historical Society held its 51st annual meeting Tuesday, May 23 at the Rickety Bridge Winery. The event recognized a variety of volunteers and supporters of the High Point Museum.
The Walsh Award, named in honor of a leading contributor to the Historical Society Valette Jones Harris Walsh, was awarded to Rebecca Gurkin. In just the last year, she has contributed over 50 hours of service by helping out with senior groups, welcoming visitors, and children from all around the region. Since starting in March of 2009, Gurkin has contributed a total of 344.75 hours of service to the organization.
Bill Phillips received the Mary Lib Joyce Award for distinct service and dedication to the High Point Historical Society. Phillips has volunteered with the High Point Historical Society and the High Point Museum Guild for several years - served as president of both.
Van Voorhees Trivette received special recognition for her help with the fundraising for the Little Red Schoolhouse. Trivette, granddaughter of Louis Voorhees who designed Little Red, has been dedicated to getting this project completed. She was instrumental in raising funds and in-kind contributions to reach the fundraising goal for the restoration project.

Larry Brandon; Dorothy Darr; Randall Johnson; Gene Kester; Zach Moore; and Ericka Saurit. New board members include
Jacqueline Arthur-Montagne, Donald Belton, Jordan Lessard, Flavia Nazareth, Van Trivette and Mark Woodward.
The High Point Historical Society owns and cares for the High Point Museum collection, securing the history of greater High Point in order to foster a shared appreciation of the diverse stories, artifacts, events and traditions of our community.
The High Point Museum, a division of the High Point Public Library, is dedicated to sharing Greater High Point’s history, providing perspective for current issues, and strengthening the sense of community.
