[ARCHIVED] High Point Museum Joins Smithsonian Magazine’s 14th Annual Museum Day

HIGH POINT, NC (September 12, 2018) The High Point Museum is participating in Smithsonian magazine’s 14th annual Museum Day, a national celebration of boundless curiosity in which participating museums emulate the free admission policy at the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based museums, on Saturday, September 22.

Museum Day represents a nationwide commitment to access, equity and inclusion. Join the High Point Museum for a day of learning about local history and family fun including a scavenger hunt and blacksmith demonstration.

"High Point has so many interesting stories waiting to be discovered at the High Point Museum," Edith Brady, Museum Director, said. "We hope people will take this opportunity to explore the history in their own backyard."

Visitors who present the Museum Day ticket at the High Point Museum will receive a 10 percent discount in the Museum Store since the Museum already offers free admission.

The theme of this year's Museum Day is Women Making History, honoring women in society who are trailblazers in the arts, sciences, innovation and culture, and emboldening others to be pioneers as well. And The High Point Museum's newest exhibit "Strength in Numbers: The Lasting Impact of Women's Organizations in High Point," focuses on women's organizations. This exhibit highlights four organizations-the Alpha Art Club, The Woman's Club, The Junior League of High Point, Inc. and YWCA High Point. This exhibit features photographs and artifacts relating to these organizations and the role they played in High Point's development.

Museum Day tickets are available for download at Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay. One ticket is permitted per email address. A list of participating museums, which will be continually updated, can be found at Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay/Search.
