[ARCHIVED] High Point Farmers Market Plans Busy Season

The Opening Day Hoopla will be filled with something for everyone including music, food trucks, health screenings and of course fresh, local produce and crafts. The day's schedule includes: Soap Bubble Circus (9 to 11 am), petting zoo (9 am to noon), face painter (10 am to noon), professional photo booth (10 am to noon), Big Bang Boom, children's music that rocks, (10:30 to 11:30 am), Brandon Vaughan, jazz musician, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm and sculpture unveiling at 12:30 pm. JDRF is the community partner for opening day.

The first Saturday of every month will highlight a different fruit/vegetable with a contest, cooking demonstrations and other activities. Judges will include local news personalities from The High Point Enterprise, FOX8 and News2, North Carolina Peach Queen, Daniel Gray aka Uncle Cheesecake, and Friends of the Library and Library Foundation volunteers.

  • May 4 – Strawberry Delight - Strawberry recipe contest
  • June 1 – Squash Bash - Food art contest
  • July 6 – Watermelon Mania - Seed spitting contest
  • August 3 – Peach Palooza - Peach Recipe Contest
  • September 7 – Pepper Blast - Chili Cook-Off
  • October 5 – Apple Jubilee – Apple Recipe contest

The second Saturday of the month will be devoted to your garden. A hands-on workshop will be held at 9:30 am each month covering a different topic such as trellising, cooking, mulching and designing. Discover Your Library the third Saturday of every month by exploring a different Library division. And then the fourth (and occasional fifth) Saturday of each month one of the local farmers will be highlighted. Learn about each farmer with stories and pictures.
