[ARCHIVED] High Point Museum and Business High Point – Chamber of Commerce Partner on New Exhibit

The High Point Museum and Business High Point - Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibit "Celebrating a Century of Commerce," set to open Thursday, July 18 during the Chamber's monthly Chamber Cheers and then to the public Friday, July 19. This year marks 100 years our local Chamber of Commerce has been in operation.

"The mission of the High Point Museum is to share High Point's history and what better way than to highlight one organization that has been involved in so much of our history," Edith Brady, Museum Director, said. "Business High Point - Chamber of Commerce is an important part of the growth and development of High Point and we wanted to be part of their celebration."

"Celebrating a Century of Commerce" will explore the lasting impact the chamber of commerce has had on the High Point community. The exhibit, open until November 16, will fill the lecture gallery and the mezzanine with photos, booklets, and brochures. The objects and memorabilia on display highlight the various projects and initiatives of the chamber during its 100 years and the exhibit discusses the current projects and programs of Business High Point - Chamber of Commerce.

"This project has been so much fun and I can't thank the High Point Museum enough for their efforts," Patrick Chapin, President and Chief Executive Officer for Business High Point - Chamber of Commerce, said.  "We look forward to sharing this look back in time and to celebrate this 100 year milestone with our members and community."

For the last several years, the High Point Museum has been working to digitize its collection and one of the largest collections focuses on the Chamber of Commerce. These materials, which includes maps, booklets, scrapbooks, brochures and programs, range from the 1930s to 2018. Statistical information about the city such as tax rates, per capita income, and types of industries are included in these items. These objects are available online through the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center, a statewide digitization and digital publishing program housed in the North Carolina Collection at UNC’s Wilson Special Collections Library. Another online resource is the Museum’s collection database links to both of these sites can be found on the High Point Museum website at https://www.highpointnc.gov/699/Changing-Exhibits.
