[ARCHIVED] High Point Museum Hosts Annual Open House

Holiday Open House

The High Point Museum is hosting its 47th annual Holiday Open House Sunday, December 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. People of all ages are invited to enjoy an entertaining day at the Museum, located at 1859 East Lexington Avenue. It will highlight and showcase High Point’s history, while helping the local community to get in the holiday spirit.

The Open House presents a fun-filled day featuring holiday-themed musical performances from local groups, arts and crafts, refreshments include hot apple cider and cookies, historical demonstrations, candledipping, historical games and of course a visit from the one and only Santa Claus.

Entertainment for the afternoon inside the Museum will include: Penn-Griffin School for the Arts High School Chorus Majors from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Senior Class Chorus Singing Seniors from the Culler Senior Center will be performing from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.; and the High Point University brass ensemble from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Once again, Joe Shelton will perform with his dulcimer in the John Haley House throughout the afternoon. Santa Claus will be in the Little Red Schoolhouse from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. p.m. The Beta Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma will be reading holiday stories throughout the afternoon.

"This event has something for all ages," Edith Brady, Museum Director, said. "It's a festive way to come together with other High Pointers and kick off the holiday season."

The Museum's annual holiday toy exhibit will be in the lobby. Follow the Museum on social media too as we post holidays decorations along Main Street from the past and track our Elf on the Shelf, Artie the Artifact, as he explores the High Point Museum.

It is the perfect time to shop for everyone on your gift list at the High Point Museum Store. The store sells a variety of local merchandise including Seagrove pottery, jewelry, books, miniature furniture, games, puzzles, novelties, T-shirts and CDs. To celebrate the opening of the Little Red Schoolhouse, ornaments are available. Proceeds from Museum Store purchases support the ongoing acquisition, care and preservation of our artifacts and other special Museum projects.

Admission and all activities are free.
