2. What are your hours of operation?

Our hours of operation are: Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (If dropping off materials, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Our facility operates on 4, 10 hour days. Please call 336-883-3111 for more information.

3. What materials do you accept?

Items Accepted in Carts for Pick-Up or at Collection Locations

• Plastic bottles, jars, tubs and jugs (worry about the shapes, not the numbers) leave the lids ON
• Cardboard: Any and all corrugated boxes including pizza boxes(no food in box) flatten for better storage and volume reduction
• Glass bottles and jars: Emptied and rinsed
• Mixed Paper: Includes newspaper, office paper, cereal/food boxes, phone books, magazines, books, junk mail, and more

4. Is there a fee?

5. I have been missed for my recycling pick-up?

If you have been missed for your recycling pick-up, call the City of High Point’s Customer service number at 336-883-3111.

6. Explain the electronics recycling program. Does it cost to drop off?

On July 1, 2011, the State of North Carolina banned all televisions and computer equipment from landfills. This includes: laptops, desktops, monitors, printers, scanners, fax machines, mice/keyboards and T.V.s. The City does not accept these items in the regular recycling or garbage. 

To recycle these items, do not place these items in your recycling cart for recycling. Instead, residents may dispose of these items for free at:

• The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) 5875 Riverdale Dr. M-Th 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
• Ingleside Composting Faciltity 3001 Ingleside Dr. M-F 8 a.m.-4 p.m. & Sat. 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

1. When will recycling be collected?

Recycling is collected at the curb on your regular collection day and placed at the curb by 7 a.m. Recycling is collected on an every other week basis. Containers should be removed away from the curb by you on or before midnight on your collection day. For more information, please call 336-883-3111, or review the recycling schedule map.

2. How does the City of High Point’s recycling program work?

Each residence served by the City of High Point is provided with one green 95-gallon recycling cart. You may purchase one additional cart for $57. There is no need to separate or bag any recyclable materials inside the cart. Recycling is provided on your regular scheduled pickup day every other week. 3. What can’t I put in my recycling cart?

No needles or medical waste, Styrofoam, bubble wrap, household hazardous waste, shoes, light bulbs, window glass, scrap metal, pots/pans, foil, garden hoses, blinds, paints or construction materials, garbage or yard waste should go in recycling carts. Please take your plastic bags to a grocery store receptacle. Styrofoam may be taken to one of our styrofoam drop-off locations. 4. I have some large cardboard boxes. Do I need to do anything with them?

Cardboard boxes should be flattened and cut into pieces that can fit into your recycling cart or they may be taken to a participating High Point Fire Department. A 1-time pick up of cardboard boxes can be made for a new resident by contacting the Customer Service Department at 336-883-3111. Use the interactive map to find a participating Fire Department.

5. Why have I received an orange tag?

This could be for a number of reasons. The driver should have marked a box explaining why. It may have something to do with the condition of your cart that needs our attention. The driver may have noticed garbage and/or non-recyclables mixed in with the recyclables. We highly encourage proper use of the recycling program for safety reasons and to reduce the cost of sorting the materials. We ask that you follow the recycling guidelines on the lid. Violations may result in fine(s) being charged or the service may be discontinued. In either case, you may call Customer Service at 336-883-3111 to request a call back about your orange tag and what we can do to help you better understand.
